Green University celebrated World Environment Day-2014

Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) celebrated the ‘World Environment Day-2014 on 5th June at its Green Campus. Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice-Chancellor of the university inaugurated the program while Prof Dwijen Sharma was the Chief Guest and Treasurer of GUB Md. Shahid Ullah & Registrar of GUB Lt Col Md. Ali Ambial Haque Khan (Retd) was the special guest respectively. World Environment Day ('WED') is celebrated every year by the Green University on June 5 to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth.

In his speech Prof. Dr. Samdani Fakir asked the students that this year’s The World Environment Day 2014 theme is about Small Islands Development States (SIDS). “Raise your voice, not the sea level” which will revolve around the broader context of climate change. The purpose of the theme is to shine the spotlight on Small Islands and their unique development challenges and successes. Climate change is foremost among these challenges. The impacts of climate change pose grievous threats to all of us and not just to the islands. As the theme asserts ` Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level`, it`s time that we all act swiftly by doing something positive for the environment. We should take the opportunity on this day to learn how communities all over the world are finding innovative ways to combat environmental degradation. At Green University it is our moral obligation to sensitize all the members, including the students of the university to be responsive on the needs of the environment.
GUB Students were encouraged to promote environmental awareness program on the university campus, city, urban and suburban area on environmental issues. The faculty members, non academic staff and the students club of the university donated tub with flower and plant for keeping at the top floors of the campuses. All faculty members from various departments, officers and students also joined the discussion meeting to make the event more effective and successful.

Green University Organized Literary and Cultural Competition




Organized by Green University Cultural Club (GUCC) and attended by a number of internationally acclaimed literary and cultural icons of Bangladesh, the two-day long Annual Literary and Cultural Competition Program held at the Green Auditorium of Green University of Bangladesh between 3 and 4 June, 2014 was a blast. The event was organized with a view to acclimatize tertiary students with the national cultural legacy of Bangladesh, and create an opportunity for celebrating them.

Events included English and Bangla Poetry recitation, solo acting, solo singing, and instrument playing competitions. In the singing contest, the categories were patriotic songs, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Contemporary Songs, and Folk songs that created an atmosphere of scintillating entertainment for the present audience. In the instrument playing category, guitar and harmonium were players contested. At least, hundred contestents have enthusiastically participated in all the events, and twenty one have been awarded first, second and third places.
 
“The event was a successful one,” remarked Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, the Vice-Chancellor and Guest of Honor at the Prize and Certification ceremony on 4 June, 2014. He also asserted that phrase ‘extra-curricular activities’ should be replaced with ‘extended learning’ as it is the literary and cultural activities that are indissoluble constituent of a complete human being. Prof. Samdani also congratulated the key person behind materializing this event, Mr. Md. Shahid Ullah, the Treasurer; A.S.M. Shamim Miah, Assistant Professor and Moderator of GUCC; Mst. Meske Jannat Ripa, Lecturer and Deputy Moderator; Md. Mustak Al Mamun, President of GUCC; for putting the event together. The event was graced by the treasurer, registrar, chairpersons of distinguished departments, and head of the centers.
