Green University organized a workshop on Speak English with Confidence


With a mission to provide professional learning platform for all, Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) and Canadian Institute of Global Learning (CiGL) jointly conduct a workshop on English at GUB seminar room on 21 and 24 May, 2013. The seminar was titled “Speak English with Confidence”. The Canadian representatives covered two major topics namely ‘Effective communication & the discipline of professional presentation’ and ‘English for Professionals’ in the workshop. 

Students from Business Administration, English, Law, Sociology, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Textile Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, and Film Television & Digital Media (FTDM) of GUB attended the workshop. As CiGL believes in empowering minds by transforming learning, they made the workshop very participatory and lively. The Vice-Chancellor of Green University of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir inaugurated the workshop. The Chairman of Business Administration Mr. Rashed Chowdhury along with the other faculty members of GUB ware present in the workshop.

Sumitomo Corporation Scholarship for DU Students

Ten first-year students for 2011- 2012 session of Dhaka University (DU) will get Sumitomo Corporation Scholarship of Japan this year. 
Students, who passed the HSC or equivalent examination in 2011 have been invited to apply for this scholarship. 

Application, in prescribed form, obtainable from Room No 208 (Ka) of DU Registrars Office must be submitted to the same office on or before May 30, 2013. 
Applicants must have at least CGPA 4.80 without fourth subject both in SSC and HSC examinations and they must be Bangladeshi nationals. No student will be considered for this scholarship who were awarded scholarship for an equivalent amount of Sumitomo Corporation from any non-government institution. 
The amount of scholarship is three hundred US dollar's equivalent Bangladeshi Taka. 
This scholarship is renewable for the next years on the basis of regularity, progress and performance of the students.

Professor Samdani Fakir joined as Vice-Chancellor of Green University


Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Green University


The Chancellor of the University and the Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has appointed Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir as the Vice-Chancellor of Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) for the next four year. He has joined on May 16, 2013.


Prior to his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samdani Fakir was the Acting Pro-VC and Director Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) of BRAC University since December 2012. Before that, he was Pro-VC and Director TLC, BRAC University from 2009 to 2012. He was Visiting Professor of SIT Graduate Institute, Brattleboro, Vermont, USA from 2006 to 2009. He also worked as Director- BRAC Training Division & was Academic Chair for Post Graduate Diploma Program in NGO Leadership and Management under Global Partnership for NGO Studies from 1997 to 2006. He was also one of the co-founder of Global Partnership.Prof. Samdani Fakir is an internationally renowned educationist, trainer and researcher with 26 years extensive professional experience in NGO management, sustainable development, social change, organizational development, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, rural development, development studies and international public health. Prof. Samdani Fakir was directly involved in the initial development process of BRAC University. He was one of the facilitators of BRAC University Initiative for Learning and Development (BUILD). A number of his research publications have been published in national and international journals.

Prof. Samdani Fakir received Global Awards for excellence in education, leadership and teaching from World Education Congress, Mumbai, India on 29th June 2012. For his contributions in Afghanistan and Global Partnership Program he was also selected as one of the recipients of the RapportBangladesh 2004 Award for Excellence in Human Resource Development.

Prof. Samdani Fakir has had a brilliant academic career. He graduated with Hon’s and Masters in Economics from the University of Dhaka. Subsequently he received his Ph.D. degree in Industrial Economics from Academia De Studii Ecomice, Bucharest, Romania in 1982. He was born in an aristocratic muslim family in 1952. His father’s name is Late Mowlana Ataur Rahman Fakir and his mother’s name is Late Rebeya Khatun Fakir. He is the father of one son.

SSC results published: Record 89% pass


The results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations were published Thursday morning with overall pass percentage of 89.03, which have broken all records with the percentage rate of success.
The success rate of this year is 2.71 percent higher than that of last year.

Total 87.31 percent students passed the exams under Dhaka board, 94.03 percent under Rajshahi, 90.41 percent under Comilla, 92.82 percent under Jessore, 88.41 percent under Chittagong, 88.63 under Barisal, 88.96 percent under Sylhet and 90.80 percent under Dinajpur.

Students of the SSC (vocational) also did well this year with 81.13 percent pass while 89.31 percent passed in Madrasa Education Board.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over a copy of the results to the prime minister in the morning.

He will formally announce the results through a press conference at his ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat around 1:00pm.

As many as 91,226 students secured highest Grade Point Average (GPA-5) this year.

The number of GPA holder is 7,358 in Chittagong, 8,186 in Dinajpur Board, 2,789 students in Sylhet, 3,514 students in Barisal, 9,086 students in Jessore and 7,854 in Comilla.

A total of 1154,758 students passed in the exams while 1303,203 candidates from 27,073 educational institutions took part in the exams under all education boards.

The SSC and its equivalent Dakhil and SSC (vocational) results will be available in the website www.educationboardresults.gov.bd.

The examinations began on February 3 and the written tests ended on March 5.

SSC, EQUIVALENT EXAMS RESULTS HAS BEEN PUBLISHED

DIU Signs MoU with Daily Star

Professor M Lutfar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Daffodil International University (DIU) signed a memorandum of understanding with Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, managing editor of The Daily Star, which stipulates that the university will subscribe to 8,000 copies of the English daily every Sunday, when the supplement Star Campus comes out, for one year from June 1 to enhance the English skill of the students. 

Md. Sabur Khan, chairman of DIU Board of Trustees and president of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries, and Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star, were also present at the event in DIU auditorium in the capital on May 06, 2013. DIU signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The Daily Star on May 06, 2013 to enhance English skills of the university students by developing their habit of reading English newspaper. 

Under this agreement, signed at DIU in the capital's Sobhanbagh, the university will subscribe to 8,000 copies of The Daily Star every Sunday, when the supplement Star Campus comes out, for the next one year from June 01, 2013. The authorities will distribute the copies among DIU students at a subsidized rate. The university currently has around 11,000 students. The idea of this project was developed by DIU Chairman Md. Sabur Khan, also president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries. He said Bangladeshis were losing opportunities of foreign jobs because of their poor English communication skills. 

Addressing the students, Editor and Publisher of The Daily Star Mahfuz Anam said, "The challenge of the 21st century is to be an informed citizen so that you can make intelligent decisions". Newspapers provide news and well-researched scholarly opinions to help readers form their own views, he added. The MoU was signed by DIU Vice-Chancellor Professor M Lutfar Rahman and The Daily Star Managing Editor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed on behalf of their respective institutions. DIU Registrar Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain and General Manager (Admin) of The Daily Star ASM Jamaluddin witnessed the signing.

BRAC Medhabikash Uddog Scholarship for SSC Passed Students

Brac Education Program is calling applications for 'Medhabikash Uddog Scholarship' from the candidates whose are hoping good results in SSC 2013.

This scholarship is provided to the merit and poor students whose have good result in SSC.

Generally, meritorious students from labor/worker family will be given precedence for the scholarship. Girls are especially encouraged to apply for the scholarship. The eligibility is - applicants have to get GPA 5 without 4th subjects in the SSC exam 2013. But, students who have studied at BRAC primary school or tribal students, their eligibility is - GPA 5 with 4th subjects.

The application can be done after publishing of SSC result.

NU Degree Pass Course admission result published

The results for admission in the degree pass courses of National University (NU) under 2012-13 academic session have been published according to the merit list and seat based.

The result is now available at NU

The last date of admission of selected candidates is May 22, 2013. The candidates who haven't passed, they have to apply again by selecting 5 colleges and the application has to be done from May 29, 2013 to June 4, 2013.
The applicants will be able to admit according to the vacant seats. The last date of Admission according to the release slip is 20-6-2013. A total of 2,67,522 students have been selected for admission at 1668 degree colleges among 3,30,424 applicants.

HSC Exams of May 9, 12 Shifted on May 31, June 1

Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations which is scheduled to be held on May 9 and 12 were shifted on May 31 and June 1 respectively due to hartal called by 18-party and Hefajat on those days. 

Exams of May 9 will begin from 9:00am on May 31 and afternoon's exams from 2:00pm, said Dhaka Education Board exam controller SM Ohiduzzaman.  Besides, exams of May 12 will begin from 10:00am and afternoon's exam from 2:00pm on June 1, he added. 

Opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance has called countrywide 2-day dawn-to-dusk shutdown from Wednesday protesting the killing common people and demanding restoration of caretaker government system. On the other hand, Hefajat-e-Islam called countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal for Sunday in protest against "killing of their activists" during Dhaka rally on Sunday last.

The first year students of European University of Bangladesh (EUB) had a study tour recently, says a press release. The tour was organized for the students of Department of Business Administration, Tourism and Hospitality Management, English and Law. 

The study tour was planned and arranged by Assistant Professor Mohammad Masudur Rahman. The tour started from visiting the National Museum of Bangladesh. They visited different historically important places like Rescors Moidan (now Suhrawardy Uddan) & Shikha Chirontan etc. 

The students also got a great opportunity to learn about the history of Bangla and the contribution of the Dhaka University (DU) in higher education from the speech of the Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique.

Orientation for Pharmacy Students of ASAUB

The Department of Pharmacy of ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) held an orientation program for its newly enrolled students of Bachelor of Pharmacy course under summer 2013 semester on the university campus in the city on May 04, 2013. 

Professor Dr. Dalem Chandra Barman, Vice-Chancellor of ASAUB, was present at the function as the chief guest. Professor Bilkis Begum, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and chairman of Pharmacy department, and Professor Md. Muinuddin Khan, adviser of the university, also spoke on the occasion. 

Speakers emphasized regular studies, discipline and code of conduct. They also thanked the fresher's for getting themselves admitted into the program which has high demand at home and abroad.
