The agitating teachers of non-MPO schools and colleges Thursday demanded
the resignation of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
They came up with the demand while staging demonstration on the road between the National Press Club and Secretariat in the noon.
The teachers alleged the government has not communicated with them in four days of their movement and police hurled tear shells to disperse them.
They were chanting slogans demanding the resignation of the education minister and inclusion of MPO facilities.
The demonstrating teachers said they would continue the movement until their demand is met.
Earlier, police charged batons and fired tear shells to disperse the teachers as they had attempted to besiege the secretariat demanding inclusion of their institutions in the government’s Monthly Pay Order (MPO) list.
Police obstructed a procession of the agitating teachers near the city’s Kadam fountain around 12:00 noon.
Later, they locked into a scuffle while trying to break police barricade.
The demonstrating teachers thronged in front of national Press Club with winding sheet from Thursday morning.
Police cordoned Paltan, Kadam Fountain, and the National Press Club and link road adjacent to secretariat with barbed wire fence from morning.
Huge contingent of police have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward situation
