ওজন কমাতে বলায় সোনাক্ষীর চুক্তি বাতিল

ওজন কমাতে বলায় সম্প্রতি একটি পণ্যের দূতিয়ালির দায়িত্ব থেকে অব্যাহতি নিলেন বলিউডের অভিনেত্রী সোনাক্ষী সিনহা। 
বেশ কিছুদিন আগে একটি পোশাক ব্র্যান্ডের দূত হিসেবে চুক্তিবদ্ধ হয়েছিলেন সোনাক্ষী। তাঁর সঙ্গে দূতিয়ালির দায়িত্বে ছিলেন হূতিক রোশন। সম্প্রতি পণ্যটির নতুন বিজ্ঞাপনী প্রচারণার জন্য পাতলা গড়নের প্রয়োজন দেখা দিলে সোনাক্ষীকে ওজন কমাতে বলা হয়। কিন্তু ওজন না কমিয়ে উল্টো শরীরে কিছু বাড়তি ওজন যোগ করেছেন তিনি। আর এমনটা তিনি করেছেন ‘দাবাং ২’ ছবিতে গৃহবধূর চরিত্রে অভিনয়ের প্রয়োজনে। এক খবরে এমনটিই জানিয়েছে মুম্বাই মিরর। 
এ প্রসঙ্গে সোনাক্ষীর মুখপাত্র বান্টি সাজদাহ জানিয়েছেন, ‘বিজ্ঞাপনী প্রচারণায় অংশ না নেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত চূড়ান্ত করেছেন সোনাক্ষী। অনেক আলাপ-আলোচনা এবং ভাবনা-চিন্তার পর এ সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন তিনি। এরই মধ্যে পণ্যটির দূত হিসেবে তাঁর চুক্তির মেয়াদ উত্তীর্ণ হয়েছে এবং নতুন করে চুক্তি স্বাক্ষর করবেন না বলে ঠিক করেছেন তিনি। পণ্যটির আরেক দূত হূতিক দূতিয়ালি চালিয়ে যাবেন কি না সেটা নিশ্চিত করে বলতে পারছি না আমি।’ 
এদিকে জানা গেছে, সোনাক্ষী চুক্তি বাতিল করায় তাঁর স্থলাভিষিক্ত হতে পারেন বলিউডের আরেক অভিনেত্রী দীপিকা পাড়ুকোন।

“She was hospitalized yesterday (Wednesday). She is undergoing a few check-ups. She is doing fine,” a hospital source told IANS. She will be discharged when her medical reports are out.

The 42-year-old reportedly fell unconscious, leading to her hospitalization, according to some published reports. These could not be confirmed.

Manisha, who hails from an influential family in Nepal, has worked in several films. She made debuted with “Saudagar” in 1991, and recently made a comeback with Ram Gopal Varma’s “Bhoot Returns”.

Barfi! sparks debate about the portrayal of the differently abled in films

Anurag Basu's latest film Barfi!, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles, is being touted as one that can change Bollywood's perception about the abilities of the disabled. Mainstream Bollywood cinema has always found it tough to seamlessly integrate the differently abled into its plotline.

The physically and mentally challenged have been portrayed as characters that deserve to be either pitied or mocked, but hardly ever simply accepted. Films that were largely successful in integrating this section of the population with the 'normal' one were immediately tagged as arthouse cinema. But with filmmakers and actors looking to challenge themselves, the arclights have now begun to shine on the differently abled.

Barfi! tells the story of the bond between a deaf and mute hero (Ranbir) and an autistic heroine (Priyanka). When he decided to make the film, Basu was sure that he didn't want to sentimentalise the hero. "If you spend time with differently abled people, you will get over the notion that they're unhappy, suffering souls. Please don't pity them. They find happiness in the smallest of things. They celebrate life constantly. It takes normal people much longer to be happy. For me, it was a given from the start: they (the characters) had to be happy."

Barfi! is only the latest in a growing list of Bollywood films that are trying to look at characters with physical disabilities from a different perspective. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish, Black and Khamoshi, Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan's My Name Is Khan, Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par (TZP), Anupam Kher's Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara and Mani Ratnam's Guru are just a few of the more recent ones that took the stand that the disabled are actually differently abled.

UK royal couple win French injunction on Kate topless photos

A French court on Tuesday banned a gossip magazine from further publishing topless photographs of the wife of Britain's Prince William, the former Kate Middleton, and ordered it to hand the pictures over to the royal couple.

The injunction granted to the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge, as the couple are formally known, also prevents France's Closer magazine from selling the pictures to other media.

The court in Nanterre, near Paris, earlier opened a criminal investigation into charges that the photographer who took the shots and Closer breached the privacy of the prince and his wife.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcome the judge's ruling," a spokeswoman for the royal couple said.

Closer will be fined 10,000 euros per day of delay in handing over the images, the court said in the civil ruling. The couple are also seeking damages from the weekly over its publication of the photographs in a five-page spread on Friday.

The pictures were taken while the couple were on holiday in a chateau in southern France and show the duchess slipping off her bikini top, relaxing on a sun lounger and at one point pulling down the back of her bikini bottoms.

Buckingham Palace has called the photo spread a "grotesque" invasion of the couple's privacy. The royal family want to make an example of Closer.

The pictures have rekindled memories in Britain of the media pursuit of William's mother, Princess Diana, who was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997 while being chased by paparazzi.

British newspapers, fighting for their reputation after a string of scandals, have agreed not to publish the images, as has the British edition of Closer, which is managed separately.

The Sun tabloid screamed: "Find Le Rat" on its front page on Tuesday and said the photographer would be found and face jail.

The court said police would investigate whether there were grounds for criminal charges against Closer and its publisher, Italy's Mondadori MOEDF.MI, and the photographer.

On Monday, the publisher of tabloid The Irish Daily Star suspended its editor after the newspaper broke ranks with Irish and British peers, publishing pages from Closer with the photographs in its Saturday edition.

Italian gossip magazine Chi, also published by Mondadori, printed a 26-page special edition dedicated to the pictures on Monday.

Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban join "American Idol" as judges

Rapper Nicki Minaj and country singer Keith Urban have signed up as judges for TV singing contest "American Idol," Fox television said on Sunday.

They will join Grammy-winning artist Mariah Carey for the 12th season of the show when it returns in January 2013.

Randy Jackson, the only remaining member of the original panel, will remain with the show, which lost some 20 percent of its audience last season.

The new judging line-up follows the departures earlier this year of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and singer-actress Jennifer Lopez after two years. Carey's name was announced in July.

Minaj, 29, is the top female rapper in a hip-hop world dominated by male artists. She burst onto the music scene in 2010 and quickly made a name for herself with headline-grabbing outfits and multiple hit records including "Starships."

New Zealand-born Urban, 44, is married to Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and is a four-time Grammy winner with sales of 15 million albums.

Producers had looked at several big names as possible additions to the panel, and rumored contenders over the past three months had included rapper Kanye West, pop star Katy Perry, Latin singer Enrique Iglesias and former "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert.

Minaj's and Urban's names were announced just hours before the first auditions for the new season in front of the judges in New York on Sunday.

"American Idol" creator Simon Fuller said in a statement that with the line-up of Carey, Urban and Minaj, "'American Idol's' star power has never been so great."

"American Idol" has been a ratings juggernaut since it debuted on Fox in 2002 but audiences are now only about half the more than 30 million who watched regularly in the show's 2005 and 2006 heyday.

The last season finale in May drew a record low of just 21.5 million viewers and Idol lost its eight-year crown as the most-watched program on US television to "Sunday Night Football."

Competition in the TV talent show market has increased dramatically in the last year with the hiring of pop star Britney Spears for "The X Factor" on Fox and radio DJ Howard Stern for NBC summer hit "America's Got Talent."

The NBC show "The Voice" boasts a celebrity judge panel of singers Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and country star Blake Shelton. It drew bigger audiences last week than the revamped "X Factor" contest.
