Dr. Sirajul Islam Medical College
Although the infrastructure of health care delivery system of
Bangladesh is fairly developed in the developing world perspective, yet
there is a long way to reach the optimum level of health care. Doctors
and supporting health professionals are the backbone of the health care
delivery system. Yet the health manpower population ratio in our country
is still one of the lowest in the world. At prest the doctor population
ratio in Bangladesh is only 1:3125. Till now available seats in medical
colleges, public & private sector together is far short of meeting
the requirement of the country. In our country a large number of
students ar willing to take part in the health care system, which is
evidenced by the large number of applicants for admission tests in
medical colleges. Unfortunately most of these eligible candidates ar
deprived from the opportunity of getting admitted in the medical
colleges of Bangladesh due to lack of enough seats. In this context Dr.
Sirajul Islam Medical College (SIMC) is a humble initiative to provide
scope for the efficient candidates to contribute in the health sector of
Bangladesh.
Aims & Objectives: The aim of SIMC is to produce a diverse and
vibrant graduate scholars in the medical discipline to create highly
competent doctors for the country. To provide an appropriate learning
environment where medical students acquire a sound theoretical and
practical knowledge. To conduct research in medical science to raise the
standard of medical education in the country.
College Campus: A beautifully arranged modern campus with
well-equipped academic and hospital buildings is the beauty of the area.
The college campus consists of a 12 storied modern academic building
attached with a 21 storied 500 bedded hospital at the heart of the Dhaka
City.

Curriculum: Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC) curriculum
adopted by the Faculty of Medicine of Dhaka University in 2002.
Affiliation of the College: The College is affiliated with the Dhaka
University as a constituent college since 31 December, 2011.
Recognition of the College: The college is recognized by the Ministry
of Health & Family Planning as well as by the Bangladesh Medical
and Dental Council.
Departments: The academic building is furnished with basic
departments of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry & Community
Medicine along with well equipped dissection room, museum, hall room and
supporting experimental laboratories for the use of students. The
departments required in the second phase, such as Pathology,
Microbiology, Pharmacology and Forensic Medicine along with their
supporting class rooms and laboratories ar situated in the 6th, 7th, 8th
& 9th floor. These departments have adequate space with well
decorated and well equipped teaching facilities. The clinical
departments such as Medicine, Surgery, Gynae & Obst. Pediatrics,
Opthalmology, ENT, Cardiology, Oncology, Orthopedic Surgery, Oral &
Maxillofacial Surgery, Anesthesia etc are situated in the hospital
building. These include spacious wards, cabins and other required
teaching facilities.
