The University of Chittagong (CU)

The University of Chittagong (CU) is a public research university situated in the suburban area of Hathazari, Chittagong district, Bangladesh. The university was established in 1966. The campus is 22 km north of Chittagong city. The University of Chittagong is surrounded by hills, and bisected by a small stream which made this university a famous tourist spot across the country. It is a multidisciplinary research university. The university ranks among the top public and private universities of Bangladesh.Currently, it is the third largest University in Bangladesh with more than 20,000 students and about 800 faculty members.

The University of Comilla also known as Comilla University, is a public university located at Kotbari, Comilla, Bangladesh. The university was constructed on 50 acres (200,000 m2) of land at Lalmai Bihar, Moynamoti. Comilla University is affiliated by University Grants Commission, Bangladesh.

Jahangirnagar University is a public university in Bangladesh, located in Savar Dhaka. It is the only one fully residential university in Bangladesh.

The university was established in 1970 by the government of Pakistan by the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance, 1970. During the first two years, it operated as a project. Its first Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mafiz Uddin Ahmad (Ph.D in Chemistry, University of Illinois, Chicago) took up office on September 24, 1970. The first group of students, a total of 150, was enrolled in four departments: Economics, Geography, Mathematics and Statistics. Its formal inauguration was delayed until January 12, 1971, when the university was launched by Rear Admiral S. M. Ahsan, the Chancellor. Until 1973, it operated as a project. In 1973 Jahangirnagar Muslim University Act was amended as Jahangirnagar University Act. In 2010 the university had a total of 10,500 students, 672 teachers, 206 staffs and 1,200 other employees. Dr. M Anwar Hossain is the (18th may, 2012) Vice-Chancellor of the university.

The University of Dhaka also known as Dhaka University or simply DU, is the oldest university in modern Bangladesh. Established during the British Raj in 1921, it gained a reputation as the "Oxford of the East" during its early years and has been a significant contributor to the modern history of Bangladesh. After the partition of India, it became the focal point of progressive and democratic movements in Pakistan. Its students and teachers played a central role in the rise of Bengali nationalism and the independence of Bangladesh .

Library

The University Library, housed in three separate buildings, is the biggest in Bangladesh. The Library holds a collection of more than 617,000 volumes, including bound volumes of periodicals. In addition, it has a collection of over 30,000 manuscripts on various languages and a large number of microfilms, microfiche and CDs. It subscribes to over 300 current foreign journals.

The Dhaka University Library comprises three buildings: The administrative building, the main library building, and the science library building. The administrative building has the administrative offices, a book acquisition section, a book processing section, a reprographic section, a book binding section, a manuscript section, and a seminar section.
