Dhaka is the worst livable city among 140 others around the world,
according to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2012 Global Liveability
Survey.
In 2011, Dhaka ranked 139 among 140 cities.
The liveability report surveyed the locations to assess the best or worst living conditions.
Ranking
140, Dhaka scored 38.7 out of an overall rating of 100 measuring
political and social stability, crime rates and access to quality
healthcare.
Australia’s Melbourne topped the chart, scoring
97.5 while Vienna, Austria; three other Canadian cities; three more
Australian cities; Helsinki, Finland; and Auckland, New Zealand made the
rest nine of the top ten.
The bottom ten cities include
Lagos, Nigeria; Harare, Zimbabwe; Algiers, Algeria; Karachi, Pakistan;
Tripoli, Libya; and Tehran, Iran.
Cities are also scored on
the diversity and standard of cultural events and the natural
environment; education (school and university); and the standard of
infrastructure, including public transport.
