Bangladesh ranks 39 on Global Terrorism Index

Bangladesh ranked 39 among 158 countries in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI), which launches its inaugural report from London on Tuesday. The study says that in Bangladesh, there were a total 6 attacks of such kind and a total of 4 died on those incidents since 2001. Among the South Asian countries, Bangladesh is the least terrorism affected nation.
The index ranks 158 countries over the past 10 years. Only 31 of them have not experienced a terrorist attack since 2001.
Produced by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), the GTI is the first index to rank countries on the impact of terrorism and analyses the associated economic and social dimensions.
The index is based on data from the Global Terrorism Database, which is collected and collated by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), headquartered at the University of Maryland in USA.
According to the report, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Yemen are the top five terrorism affected nations.
The study says that terrorist incidents peaked in 2007 after increasing every year in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks in 2001. But terrorism fatalities have decreased by 25 percent since then.
