Freshers' orientation programme for the newly admitted students of Spring 2013 semester of Varendra University (VU), Rajshahi, the only government approved private university in the northern region, was held at RUET auditorium recently.
Presided over by the Vice Chancellor of VU Professor Osman Gani Talukder, the programme was attended and addressed, among others by Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University Professor M Abdus Sobhan as the chief guest while Dr. Sheikh Matiur Rahman, Head of business administration department of VU delivered his welcome speech.
RU VC Professor Dr. Abdus Sobhan said students should try to become a true educated person and not the certificate holders. To lead the nation, students should practice patriotism and honesty, he added.
The programme was also attended by Professor Ainuddin, RU proctor Chowdhury M Zakaria, Professor Ramesh Chandra Debnath, Professor Abdus Salam, Dr. Anisur Rahman and teachers of VU from various departments.
In the programme a total of 150 students of six departments were accorded freshers' reception. Six students were given prize for holding first positions from their respective departments during the last semester's final examination.
