GUB Organized a Study Tour at RPCL

The final year students of the regular program of B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of the Department of Electrical and Electrical Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering of Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) took part in a day-long study tour to the Rural Power Company Limited (RPCL), Kodda, Gazipur on December 10, 2012.

The purpose of the study tour was to help the students to have a practical knowledge on different electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical machines, transformers and their controlling equipment used at the power generation processes of this sophisticated and modern power station in Bangladesh. Twenty five students including one female student participated in the tour. Three faculty members, Dr. Engr. Muhibul Haque Bhuyan, Associate Professor and Chairman of EEE Department and Engr. Robiul Hossain Md. Rafi and Engr. Md. Jawadul Hasan Bappy, Lecturers of EEE Department guided the students during the tour.

Plant-in-Charge and DGM (Technical) of RPCL Engr. Jalal Uddin Akond, Project Coordinator of RPCL Engr. Md. Abdul Malik and four other Engineers of RPCL guided the students in two groups. They have demonstrated and briefed the operation of the pump house, water treatment plant, oil storage and purification process, boiler section, turbine section, generator section and sub-station section through which generation voltage is stepped up to 33 KV from 11 KV so that the generated power can be fed to the grid lines.

They also explained how power is fed to the various internal motors and other equipment through auxiliary step-down transformers. They have also demonstrated the various control operations of the power station in control room. It may be mentioned that the RPCL is a 55 MW dual fuel (Heavy Furnace Oil or Gas) based power station with the latest power generation technology in Bangladesh and started its operation in July 2012.
