US announces Fulbright - Nehru fellowships 2014, USA Scholarships for Indian

The United States - India Educational Foundation (USIEF) has announced the application and admission schedule for various Fulbright-Nehru fellowships / scholarships and other Fulbright fellowships for Indian students, teachers, professionals who want to study, teach and research in the US in the 2014 - 15 academic session.

USIEF offers a wide range of exchange opportunities to Indian citizens in the following 3 main categories:

Student Awards to pursue a master's degree or attend a US university as a visiting student researcher,
Scholars and Teacher Awards for academics, teachers and professionals to teach or conduct research in the US, and
Professional Development Programs for leadership and skill development.
Over the years, the USIEF has administered over 18,000 grants for Indians and US citizens.

There are 6 Fulbright-Nehru Fellowships that the USIEF offers to Indian citizens:

1. Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships
2. Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships
3. Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships
4. Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships
5. Fulbright-Nehr - CII Fellowships for Leadership in Management
6. Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Seminar

The application deadline for most of these fellowships is 1 July 2013. The selection process will take almost an entire year from the time of application. Hence the programs offered are scheduled to begin after July 2014 in most of the cases.

The other Fulbright fellowships that USIEF is offering Indian citizens include:

1. Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program
2. Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchange Program
3. Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program
4. Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program
5. Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching Program

The duration of all these fellowships/ scholarships/ grants vary between 2 weeks to 24 months depending on the grant category.

There is no age limitation to apply to these fellowships in general. However there can be exceptions, for example, for the Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program, the applicant should be between 21 and 29 years of age.
