Green University Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning (GUCETL) has organized a two days (7-8 March 2014) long workshop on “Interactive Teaching and Learning at the Tertiary Level: Steps towards Quality & Excellence” in its campus. A total of 33 faculty members from 5 Public and 14 Private universities attended in the workshop. The Public Universities are Bangladesh Open University, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University, Jagannath University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Govt. Teacher Training College. The Private Universities are Eastern University, Asian University of Bangladesh, State University of Bangladesh, Uttara University, Central Women’s University, Prime University, Atish Dipankar University of Science & Technology, Dhaka International University, University of Asia Pacific, The People’s University of Bangladesh, Presidency University, University of Liberal Arts and Southeast University. The Vice-Chancellor of Green University of Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir presided over the opening and the closing sessions of the workshop and he was also the lead facilitator for the workshop. Prof. M. A. Mannan, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University was present as Chief Guest in the opening session and Professor M. Omar Ejaz Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Independent University Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest in the closing session.
Some eminent educationists facilitated deferent sessions of the workshop. They were Dr. M. Kaykobad, Professor of BUET; Dr. SM Hafizur Rahman of IER, DU; Ms. Farida Akther an eminent Psychologist; Mr. Shawkat Kamal, Chairperson of DBA, GUB; ASM Shamim Miah, Assistant Professor of English Department of GUB and Ms. Arifa Rahman Sr. Lecturer of GUCETL. The workshop covered topics like Introduction and Socialization, Effective Habits of High Performing Teachers, Creativity and Critical Thinking in Teaching, Managing Student’s Disruptive Behavior: The Role of The Teachers, Writing Learning Reflection, Assessing, Reviewing and Evaluating Learners’ Performance, Teaching Methodology: Teacher Centered VS Learner Centered, Moving Beyond the PowerPoint in Classroom Teaching Learning, Avoiding Plagiarism in Writing, Receiving and giving Feedback, Discussion on Course Syllabus and Developing Lesson Plan, Micro Teaching Practices etc. The workshop came to a close with a sumptuous dinner.
