Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) is celebrating its diamond jubilee on December 1, 2012 on the occasion of its 64th founding anniversary.
The programme has begun from 8 am and will run till 8 pm.
The president also the chancellor of the university, Md. Zillur Rahman, will inaugurate the day-long programme at the university playground at about 10:00 am.
However, the Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, had cancelled her schedule to attend the function due to unavoidable circumstances.
Many old alumni like MB Chowdhury of 1940, Dr. Afia Dil of 1945, and Dr. Ashok Mittra of 1948 will attend the programme.
More than 8,000 participants including former and incumbent ministers, notable educationists, cultural personalities and other prominent personalities, would attend the function, said the DUAA secretary general, Rakibuddin Ahmad.
The university playground has been decorated to celebrate the diamond jubilee. The security measures have been tightened on the campus on the occasion.
The alumni association asked its participants to visit the venue with security pass cards provided during the registrations.
The day-long programme features reception to the guests, rendering music and sharing reminiscence of university life. A cultural function will be held in the evening.
The DUAA was established on September 24, 1949 with late justice M Ibrahim as its president.
