Faculty Orientation workshop at Green University


Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) has successfully completed a four day long workshop on Teaching and Learning at GUB: Steps towards Quality and Excellence. The workshop was designed for orienting and developing teaching & learning skills of 16 newly recruited faculty members. It was organized and facilitated by Green University Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning (GUCETL) and was held from 10-13 January 2014 at GUB campus.

Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice Chancellor of GUB provided overall guidance and acted as lead facilitator for the workshop. However, some of the sessions of the workshop were facilitated by some eminent educationist. They were Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, VC of Eastern University; Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Professor of North South University & former Governor of Bangladesh Bank; Ms. Farida Akhtar, a renowned Psychologist; Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Professor of Daffodil International University; Mr. Md. Shawkat Kamal, Chairperson of Business Administration of GUB; Dr. Islam Mohammad Hashanat, Associate Professor of Department of English of GUB; Mr. ASM Shamim Miah, Assistant Professor of English and Ms. Arifa Rahman, Sr. Lecturer of English of GUB. Professor Imran Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts was the Chief Guest at the closing session. The workshop covered topics like social capital for classroom, managing the first class, students’ learning styles vs teachers’ teaching, effective habits of high performing teachers, managing students’ disruptive behavior, how to prevent plagiarism, efficient use of PowerPoint, the art of questioning, preparing course syllabus and lesson plan etc. The workshop came to a close with a cultural programme followed by a sumptuous dinner.
